We haven't got a dedicated Mopar thread have we? Although I have a bit of a Chevy thing going on I secretly like a bit of Pentastar so here goes.
Any truly dedicated Mopar lovers on here?

My favorite would be a 1967 440 dart, love these cars helped a guy in the States at the L.A County Raceway run his to the final and fell in love with the car, it was only a 9 second bracket car but it just looked and sounded right.

This is not it, but same body style.

Sad news Johnny but they are cars that need a welder as an owner, I had an eight year old one and had to weld that. Thinking about it though they are as near to works of art as a production car will ever get and anybody who leaves one to rot should be stabbed!

I remember that Desoto when it was yellow and white. It lived a few streets from me when pink and white, left outside in all weather along with a 58 Ford Skyliner and a 60s Pontiac. I'm with you Rog on leaving cars like that outside to rot, it always amazes me that people pay thousands of pounds for an old car but apparently can't afford to buy a decent outdoor cover. There's a nice looking 55/6 Pontiac 2-dr hardtop near me, sits on a drive, never moves, never covered up. Not sure about stabbing the owners but they should be made to hand the keys over to someone who will actually take good care of it and keep it preserved rather than letting it sit and rot.

Thanks for the kind words by what I've been told it's been left to rot in Italy !

Edit: 12 months ago, that car was at a company called "Stile Italiano." It was then sold to a guy living in Turin. Judging by his comments on Facebook, he's happy with it. So you'll be pleased to know its not rusting away.

In very basic terms it was a bump stop that limited the movement upwards of the diff pinion during a launch. This then used the energy in the drivetrain to help plant the tyres against the surface.

Recently made and fitted one on an adjustable cradle to my mates car using Jaguar IRS bump stops. Tunable by shims and slots. Although we did it to stop excessive prop travel it has transformed the launch.

I also had a '71 Roadrunner many years ago and although a great driver I preferred the earlier body style. Now I look at '71's and think what a great looking car.

Yes, it was my daily back in the mid seventies.

That's great.

I bet that cut a dash amongst all the Cortinas, Marinas, Vivas etc.
Do I spy a hood mounted tach?

Yes. I still have one here off another car, sentimental attachment! The RR had the usual mods of the day, Holley/headers/Mallory etc. 383/4spd. Bought from a serviceman who had it from new and was going back. It turned up on the Mopar site a few years back but was pretty rotten sadly.
The '67 GTX is now owned by Merlin McKormack after being owned by his Mum for many years. It is loved thankfully.

Sooo.....if the wish fairy offered you one of the two back, would you go Roadrunner or GTX?

Plumpcars
11-03-14, 06:41 AM
Gtx. I thoroughly enjoyed both but that shape, the style of the interior and general stance worked for me. I loved the four speed of the Roadrunner(and a pistol grip shifter is a work of art in my book) but would struggle with it now due to health. Performance was probably pretty equal I think. One thing i really love is the whole advertising push that Mopar had back then. The cartoons, the psychedelia, race teams, performance clinics, Mopar led and made the others work hard to match I think which in my book led to the greatest advertising era in the automotive world ever.
The GTX is in good hands and being looked after now which is great to know. Condition has suffered over the years but is coming back.

Good choice with the GTX, although either would've been a good choice in my opinion :D
My favourite years for the B body are '64/5 where the two door coupe has that funky roofline and the convex rear glass.

Talking about stories, to me that is where Custom Car could have the edge over all the online content re certain cars by getting behind the tech spec and writing about the whys and wherefores and the history of a car and its owner. Especially whe there are some cars out there with owners who also have real history;)
