Back in the summer I was on ebay and in a moment of madness I bought something to give us more work.

http://www.torquedup.co.uk/forum/imagehosting/usr_images/3/4/34_52bcb93203fa0.jpg

The theory behind this is to hopefully attain a 7 second run as this body is light as hell.

Initially I was apprehensive as we didnt know if it would fit our chassis as it is made off mark williams plans and the body was made to fit ???
So of to essex to get it we went...

Once back the chevette shell was deposited in the back of the shop and the bantam was lowered on. .

http://www.torquedup.co.uk/forum/imagehosting/usr_images/3/4/34_52bcb8c566a15.jpg

No cutting was needed.

The aluminium front sections were fitted up to check the cool factor and we found the fuel cell was too high so it was cut out to lower it.

Do excuse the phone pics..

Now your just showing off, the hardest part looks as if it'll be deciding which body to run.

Enclosed Chevette for the cold Easter Thunderball weather, Bantam for the hot summer weather at the Mopars.

theoretically i will be able to run both in a weekend as the dash area is to be re done so i can "just" pop off the bantam stuff and drop on the chevette.

thanks mate,i have no plans as yet as they are all bracket based and the cars not that consistent, not having all the delay boxes and stuff.
also not doing class racing you never know what you will line up against...the sevearly chopped imp was a funny one.
im not saying i wont do it but if i had a blower motor i would do the supercharged outlaws thing as their a good bunch of guys...

right....after a phone call to non trader bigyellataxi i got some cds tube off his employers for the rear wing struts and to mount the canard wings..thanks guy.

after a trip to hauser race cars to deposit deans 32 for a rear axle i remembered i needed some rod ends and some weld in bushes so these were purchased for the wing set up..top chaps at HRC..

so after a team meeting today father started on the wing section, myself and the fabrication dept (the riddler) cut the tube and mocked up the canard wings to check the cool factor...i drank tea.

we had heater failure so it was all hands on deck to fix it..

I,m sorry but I've never seen the Chevette. It sounds great though. I'd love to see it in action. My mate is a major Chevette fan. He lavishes loads of money on one he's had for years trying to keep it roadworthy. Unfortunately a major task from the rust monster that's devouring it from all areas.

oil mist from the breather stops the inside of the chassis rusting :incheek: (old landrover trick ) :incheek:

Torment
23-01-14, 07:36 PM
If the engine goes bang the pressurised oil should go into the chassis if it's a rod out of the block/sump they aren't worth shit. . also works as a breather as there's a tank at the rear to catch the oil vapour..
They may be redundant as I want to get a vacuum pump to help with ring seal..

stops the chassis rusting too..:D

Ideally it will be a moroso 4 vane item..
I may well end up with a full kit from the USA. ..tank, lines, pump, belts and pulleys.

Liam, put a horizontal tube between the wing struts as close to the threaded insert as you can. If you go upside down it limits the strut from projecting through the cage and into the cockpit.

I have done it already it's just that I'm a bit lazy in updating the thread...those that were at bakewell would have seen the offending item. .

I had the same predicament, but my thinking was if I don't learn to TIg now I never will. Bought an R-Tech DC Tig, aside for a heavy torch and lack of foot pedal I can't fault it. Deans just bought the AC/DC version and it's twice the size but still a very good machine for the price.

Will be at the Nostalgia thing at the Pod, first time back in over 25 years, as my Missis is taking me for a birthday treat. Are you going to be around so I can tell you how you got it wrong and how I can advise you to get a better race car. Ive read magazine articles, you know. Plus my mate did one like that for under 1000 quid and it ran sub 5s.

I need to change the axle ratio as it's revving too much at the top end..It does 130 at half track an only 154 at the line.

its got 4.11s in at the moment it really needs 3.54s or there abouts..7.90 is the target without over revving the engine.

The wing was a conglomerate of measuring, bits of string, and "that looks about right".

cool....that sounds like mid 8s
will that gearing not slow the car down off the line though

mid 8s??? been there done that, the gearing should not change too much as it was only on a 3400 chip on the transbrake and it was in the process of being turned up when the crank shit its self.upon inspection at E.D.A. it was deemed scrap as it had spun a bearing and bent meaning the block had to be line bored and had new caps fitted as it was to be used as a spare if needed, the rods and pistons are good, the cam is ok also.

that meant a quick phone call to shafiroff racing engines for a new bottom end.....(empty wallet time)

the end result was a new dart 540 big m block, callies crank with double keyways (just incase),new rods and the same 14.4 compression pistons as the old engine, new flexplate, damper, cometic head gaskets, sump, oil pump, vac pump kit...and more.

when the bits arrived the old engine was used to mock up the vac kit so i could make the pipes, and see where my moneys gone.

http://www.torquedup.co.uk/forum/imagehosting/usr_images/3/4/34_545cff9395d8a.jpg

the fuel tanks been sectioned an inch and the lines repositioned to fit under the front also.

in between all this i have kept myself, bergy, sid and the riddler busy crewing on lee gallimores fuel altered (well done on the championship win:tup:)
we will continue with this next year also.
