Hello all you know I like a challenge well check this out I just purchased it from a couple of guys over here. Its a 1959 Chevy Suburban special order school bus that Delta high school purchased new in 1959 who had it until 1979 then a guy bought it & had it on the road until 1986. It was then found in 2013 by a couple of guys in the guys back yard nee deep in sand. They did the basics to get it on the road. It was then bought by a couple of guys from over here with a group of motors where I purchased it. I plan to restore it to a bus but convert it for my daughter & her wheel chair atb Andy.:tup:
PS A big thank you for DAN & TICH from Dodge City trucks for picking it up for me:tup:

Hello all well as you will see I have been busy now & then I have cut the rot out of the drivers side rear lower quarter & made up various panels to rectify & added basic filler to tidy it up . Have also cut out the rotten parts of the wheel arch & let in new metal. As for the nasty damage on the side that had previously been tried to be pulled out I had to cut the worst out so I could get behind it to knock the worst out of the rest of the damage & then I but welded a new square panel in courtesy of some old racking I removed from my gas van I bought 5 years ago (I new it would come in handy). I have started filling it but started stripping the front out to remover the engine & box as it started raining the other day & got engrossed in other things. I am waiting for some repair panels etc. so I can continue with the welding so while I am waiting I have started cleaning & painting the engine & box up. The clutch has just started to touch the rivets so I have orders a new clutch etc. as well as a new sump set & rear main oil seals to rectify the oil leaks from the back of the engine.
All the best Andy.:tup:

Hello all just a quick update I stripped the sump off to change the gasket & the lower part of the rear main oil seal rope but sadly the top part of the seal had spun half way around so I ended up removing the crank out a little as far as it would go to allow me to remove & replace the upper rope seal. The engine seemed to be in quite good condition after checking the crank & shells etc. So the engine is now back in & building it up again the bad running hopefully was down to 2 things 1.the carb float had a hole in it allowing fuel to enter the float thus not allowing enough fuel in hence why it run better on choke. 2. The vacuum advance diaphragm was no good & was split so hopefully will run better now. I have given the engine a good coat of good old WILCO ENAMAL paint I have got a new chrome rocker cover & side plate to go on but am waiting for the engine to be started up again so I can adjust the tappets etc. I have nearly finished the step but hasn't been the weather to do welding out side also the inner lower A post is in as well as the new floor support as well as the new floor section I haven't put the whole panel in as I wanted for it to look as original as it could be. I have also started to repair the drivers side wing here are are a few pictures enjoy atb Andy.:tup:

Hello all I hope you are all well I have dragged myself out to re start doing the bus again now the better weather was here!!!!!! . I stripped the passenger rear quarter of all of its nasty filler which took a good couple of hours to find various accident repairs over the years to find loads of holes where a slide hammer had been used which probably explains why the filler had cracked & gone funny where the water was getting behind it. So I welded all the holes up & tried to pull out the rear quarter as best as I could. Then I re made the lower part of the rear wheel arch & the lower rear quarter inner & outer panels & applied some filler to be finished off by the professionals. I then cut off the rocker panel from the old step as this is the same shape as the lower part of the front part of the rear quarter. I then braced the door aperture to give some strength to the shell while I replaced the door step lower inner & outer front door post. I also cut out the rotten floor to allow me to replace the front body support. I cut the floor carefully so I could make it look more original rather than welding the complete repair panel in. Here are a few pictures I hope you enjoy I will post some more pictures soon weather permitting atb Andy.:tup:

:tup::tup::tup::tup:Still looking Great!!!! Philip

15-09-16, 03:57 PM
Thanks Phillip the first run was great no wines bangs or anything. Didn't run bad either adjusted the timing found the air filter to be blocked solid so fitted an Anglia one on it & it now runs great. I have done about 100 miles in it I have got a rear hub seal gone so I have ordered the parts.Now the new clutch I fitted the new release bearing as fell apart so not happy atb Andy.:tdown:

15-09-16, 05:30 PM
That's a bummer on the release bearing, it is one of the things that really grates with me, buying new and having the new bit fail:tdown:

15-09-16, 06:20 PM
Hello Phillip thanks for your comments the first trip out was very surprising no wines or rattles & drives very well. It had a slight flat spot so re timed the engine & found the air filter was blocked. So I had a spare Anglia 105e air filter which fitted perfectly so I cleaned & painted it up & put it on & looks great. Now for the bad bits it has a rear hub seal leaking so I have had to order new rear bearings & seals the pinion oil seal is leaking do have ordered one of those as well. Now to the bit I am pissed off about is the new clutch I bought that nearly cost about 300.00 the release bearing has fell apart so the box has got to come out again atb Andy.:tup:

30-09-16, 02:45 PM
:tup: Well Done!!!! These things are minor, ITS RUNNING!!!! Philip
