It looks like we are all going to have time on our hands, (Cov 19) which will give me plenty of time to fit my full carpet, but before that lets start from the beginning.
In a nutshell I am happy with my first American car, whilst viewing I noticed a few things that were in need of fixing or altering, the interior was a thousand different shades of brown, which at the time I thought "oh well at least its not red" but now I think its just as bad.

The very first thing I did was to remove the stripes that ran down onto the rear bumper.

http://www.torquedup.co.uk/forum/imagehosting/usr_images/8/6/2/862_5e7b89b8e1c17.jpg

before above, and after below.

Now the sharp eyed ones of you, will now be saying what the hell is going on with those rear lights, the truth is "I have know idea"

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48712402487_a795202ca8_z.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/2hdxN9p)Z28 (https://flic.kr/p/2hdxN9p) by shagracer (https://www.flickr.com/photos/67147237@N03/), on Flickr

so they became job number two, a friend who had followed me, had commented on how dim the lights were, which soon became apparent once I pulled them apart, below is what was the reflective surface.

but were quickly turned into this

and put back onto the car with new lenses.

Still not quite happy with the way the stripes seem to run, when you approach from different angles, it was time for the spoiler bits to be removed, I now think this looks a lot cleaner.

time to turn my attention to the interior, a good vacuum and a rub around with a damp cloth, this is when I came to the conclusion that the previous owner must have been a carpenter, as everything is held together by wood screws.

did I mention that the interior is made up of around "50 shades of tan" the more you look the more things you notice.

such as too many after market gadgets, screwed into things that shouldn't be screwed into, and my favourite bodge/repair why not put a replacement Rev counter with a shift light (this car is an auto) into the broken original, then drill/screw two hole into the dash, and if the new unit taps against the old one, fill the back with black silicone

out of the six dash clocks, only two worked the fuel and speedo, even then the needle is snapped so read wrong, the amps and temp had been replaced by installing a set of 3 into the centre consul.

time to tone down the brown/tan/beige, the A pillar cappings had some stains which would not wash off, these got removed along with all the trim strips that meet the roof liner, I found a nice wood screw had been used to replace a broken clip.
trim got a good rub down and sprayed black.
The tin air vent panel (just in front of windscreen) also got sprayed, leather parts of the dash were dyed black.

I ordered a full set of instrument dials with a new dash panel from the states, the dash panel was just pure plastic crap, had to trim it down to fit into my aperture, I carefully prised my swivel air vents out of the old dash and fitted them into the new unit, but the air box part had been bonded too low and on the slant, letting air past even when in the closed position, the swivel parts couldn't swivel as they hit the bottom of the panel.
The new panel was cut up so I could use just the middle section.

several ideas came and went, till I came up with this "clubman race" look, not using any of the new panel...Doh!

No not at all, its tidy, but no way a show car, I intend to drive and enjoy this as a dry weather weekend vehicle, im not going to lose sleep if I find a new stone chip on her, just keep her reliable and safe, with no obvious eyesores e.g. no wood screws.

talking of which, more wood screws were used to hold the black light bezels.

http://www.torquedup.co.uk/forum/imagehosting/usr_images/8/6/2/862_5e888ad9ac804.jpg

which were removed, bezels cleaned and given some black magic dash spray, secured with black plastic fasteners, the orange bulbs were switched for chrome bulbs which flash orange.

this brings us almost up to date, as I have a full replacement carpet laid out on the spare bed waiting to be fitted

time to pull the rear seats and bits of trim, to gain access for removal of old carpet.

http://www.torquedup.co.uk/forum/imagehosting/usr_images/8/6/2/862_5e8d9060c097e.jpg

a case of push base of seat back, lift up, and with your 3rd hand slide under seat to help release clip, "easy"
passenger base went ok, but when I slid my hand under drivers side……….my hand shot out faster than a Supra on nitrous,

http://www.torquedup.co.uk/forum/imagehosting/usr_images/8/6/2/862_5e8d9220659f6.jpg

luckily no dead bodies were found nor any droppings, think this may of been the start of a home that didn't get moved into. anyway it cleaned up well and no real smell, the sound damping mat for the back rest, was falling down and looked past it, so was removed and binned.

http://www.torquedup.co.uk/forum/imagehosting/usr_images/8/6/2/862_5e8d945bd3497.jpg

the seats were given a good scrub, I don't want a full 100% black interior as I want to keep the lower part of the dash as is, but the seats are too much tan/brown, with nothing to lose, out came the black dye again, these aren't finished yet, but looks like they will live on for a few more years.

Got her all stripped out, cant believe how bad the old carpet is, didnt look as bad when it was in place. Floor isn't bad, a few scabs need a wire brushing and a splash of protection.
