You are all correct. Came in a couple of years ago for a trans rebuild and a TC upgrade as it had always tried to keep going at lights and junctions. We put another 500 or so rmp stall in it.

Owner is a really nice guy and all worked out great.

Looks like some sort of turbine car, guessing built as a concept for a show.

some elements of the interior remind me of a 60s dragster
panel behind engine and rear wheel cover look like a 30s roadster
smooth side moldings remind me of a 70s/80s future rod [california star etc]
canopy shouts race car of some sort
and what looks like a helicopter engine in the middle??????

beats me and i cant wait to learn more. [refusing to use google]

It's something only semi-obscure - the 1953 General Motors Firebird I concept. It's in London at the moment for an exhibition called Cars: Accelerating the Modern World at the V&A. It's 18 to get in but well worth it in my opinion. Unless I'm mistaken, the Firebird was the first American car to experiment with gas turbine propulsion and it would crack the ton, but the immense torque made it lethal when changing gear.

What a fantastic styling concept. If ever you're accused of wearing rose-tinted specs as you pine for the past you can just say "No, things really were better. Look at the Motorama show cars." Unfortunately, I can't say the same for this promotional film issued for the Firebird II. All-American kitsch at its worst - I don't know how the actors kept a straight face. Grit your teeth and take a look.

^^^ the Firebird was my immediate thought, given the 'cutout' visible in the photo, the turbine and the colour scheme, but I coulda sworn it was a 2 place car...
Just enetered it in my search engine and the photos that pop up are with a different canopy and two seats; reckon it was 'convertible'. Shoulda gone ahead and posted my initial guess - what would I have won?
