    Another update.

Car has been paid for but the "specialists" damaged my driveway trying to drag it over a single post lift with no skates, no jacks and no HIAB so discussions are underway.

Loss adjuster has offered approximately 89% of the claim for tools etc (but no payment for car parts or accessories, paints oils etc)

Building work on garage and garden, house eaves etc should start next week

Top windows of the house replaced as they were due to be done anyway

Patio doors and kitchen window on the 19th

Things looking up a bit now but the missus still bursts into tears if she thinks too much about it or views the 8 second video a neighbour took

Planning a big trip to the States next year and try and get the enthusiasm going again.

Your story has made me even more paranoid at home than I already was. Glad it's getting there.

Only words I know but tell your other half to look forward and not think how much worse it could have been, things could very easily have been worse, it always can but in real terms it is just property that you lost and now, like you are with the new car and the planning of the holiday, things can get better every day.

As I said it is only words from someone not there, also maybe showing her the new smoke alarm that is linked to the house and your mobile phone might help ease her mind for the future

Bit of an update, things have been a bit slow as the surveyor decided the garage floor slab was okay just needed some sort of screed.
As the floor was always at a slope due to the original floor but levelling out I asked the builder for a price to relay it level.
    3000

Me and my boys dug up the old slab and relaid the dpc then compacted it all etc etc. A local builder levelled the concrete whilst I did the barrow work when it arrived, job done for about 1200 and a sore back and sunburned head and neck lol.

It now resembles a garage, the house windows and doors have been replaced but there is a bit of a hullabaloo over the asbestos boards on the eves of the house so the gutters will take a bit longer once the insurance okay the removal cost.

Wiring might be next week and maybe the shed and patio along with the fence.

Bonus points are they are putting a slate roof on, I am having a remote roller shutter fitted but paying the difference and Issy is going to Teneriffe with 6 of her mates at half six tomorrow for five nights, she deserves it and still bursts into tears if she views a short video a neighbour from six doors down took or has to answer too many questions about what happened.

Forgot to say the smoke alarm link is a great idea. I also plan to install a sprinkler system powered from an external battery but connected to mains water so at the flick of a switch it might save any big damage.
